Get to Know Me

Hi, I’m Ria.

I’m a qualified Primary Teacher with over 15 years of experience across Sussex, London and Gloucestershire, including senior roles as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo), supporting children with a wide range of learning needs. During my time in schools, I often felt there was a lack of the right support for children with dyslexia, which led me to specialise and train as an Accredited Teacher with the British Dyslexia Society.

As a parent to two neurodiverse children, I bring both professional expertise and personal understanding to my work. I’ve also supported families as a SEN advocate, helping them navigate the journey to the right support.

With a Postgraduate Certificate in Therapeutic Play, I take a gentle, holistic approach that builds confidence, supports emotional wellbeing, and helps children with dyslexia feel capable, understood and ready to succeed.

Assessment Sessions £35

To ensure each child receives the most effective support, we begin with two initial assessment sessions. These are charged at the standard lesson rate of £35.00 per session.

Following these, there is an additional assessment session, also charged at £35.00. This session allows time to review the information gathered, including your child’s strengths, interests, and preferences, along with any relevant input from school staff or other professionals.

Using this insight, we create personalised targets and a tailored programme that builds on your child’s strengths while supporting areas where they may need further development.

Dyslexia Screening £90

I can provide a report which identifies strengths and weaknesses in key areas of the Dyslexia profile. The report draws upon parent, school and other professional reports (if available) to indicate the likelihood of Dyslexia and whether a formal assessment by a suitable qualified professional is required.

FAQs

How do I know if my child might have dyslexia?

Many parents notice:

• Struggling to learn letter sounds
• Slow or hesitant reading
• Difficulty remembering spellings
• Avoiding reading or writing
• Losing confidence

Every child develops at their own pace, but if reading feels much harder than expected, it can help to look a little closer.

I’m always happy to chat through concerns and help you decide on the next steps.

Does my child need a diagnosis before tutoring?

Not at all.

Many of the children I work with are still waiting for assessment or have suspected dyslexia. Support can begin based on the difficulties a child is experiencing.

Early help can make a big difference to both progress and confidence.

What happens in a session?

Sessions are calm, structured and tailored to each child. They are one hour long with lots of short activities in which your child will easily find success. Most teaching is through playing games and utilising multi sensory methods.

We focus on:

  • Reading skills

  • Spelling development

  • Memory skills

  •  Comprehension

  • Handwriting

FAQs

How long does it take to see progress from your sessions?

Every child is different, but small changes often happen quite quickly, especially in confidence.

Steady, consistent support helps build strong foundations over time. My focus is on helping children feel successful while developing skills step by step.

Do online sessions really work?

Yes — and many children actually feel more relaxed learning from home.

Online sessions are interactive, structured and personalised, and I make sure children feel comfortable, supported and engaged throughout.

How much does a session cost?

Currently. £35.00 per lesson. Invoiced monthly.

Can you write reports to support my child at school?

Yes, I am confident writing professional reports for Tribunals, EHCP or IEP/My Plan reviews. I will summarise the work we have done and areas still for development. I can make some recommendations on provision based on my observations. This will be at an additonal cost. However, provision should be identified by an AMDA Assesor to ensure qualfication for Disabled Student Allowance (when undergoing a full assessment). I can put you in touch with a suitably qualified professional.
